VII. OF THE VIRGIN BIRTH
We believe (a) that Jesus Christ was begotten of the Holy Ghost in a miraculous
manner; (b) born of Mary, a virgin, as no other man was ever born or can ever be
born of woman, and (c) that He is both the Son of God, and God, the Son.

*** (a) Gen. 3:15. '7 win put enmity between thee
and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and
thou shalt bruise his heel."
*** (b) Isa. 7:14. "Therefore the Lord himself
shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall
call his name Immanuel."
Matt. 1:18-25. "Now the birth of Jesus Christ
was on this wise; When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came
together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being
a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her
away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord
appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph thou son of David, fear not to take
unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall
save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled
which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with
child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which
being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the
angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till
she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS."
Luke 1:35. "And the angel answered and said
unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall
overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall
be called the Son of God."
Mark 1:1. "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus
Christ, the Son of God."
John 1:14. "And the Word was made flesh, and
dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the
Father)."
Psa. 2:7. "Thou art my Son; this day have I
begotten thee."
Gal. 4:4. "But when the fulness of the time
was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law."

and eternal life."
I Cor. 15:47. "The first man is of the earth,
earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven."
